Dress Well: Dress Up, Dress Down

I don't think I've made this any secret on this blog: I hate wearing heels. They're massively uncomfortable and seriously inconvenient to walk in. Add to that the fact that I'm already 5'6", which means your average four-inch heel puts me at a cool 5'10" (I know, really challenging math this morning on Name's Not Ashley). Not that I have any problems with being tall - sometime it's really nice - but other times I feel like I'm making my 5'1" friends and coworkers uncomfortable by towering over them. Or maybe I'm just the awkward one. I don't know.

However, heels are the one type of footwear that can somehow make wearing boyfriend jeans look dressy enough to wear to a semi-fancy restaurant. So I somewhat reluctantly donned them last weekend when my husband took me out to dine in the dark. The blind server who led us through the pitch-black restaurant referred to us "as the really tall people" when he came by to lead us out at the end of the night, but other than that I had a great time in my sparkly shoes. And my loose jeans. Always a necessity for a big night of eating.

Finally (since we're still kind of on the subject of being awkward), before these pictures were taken I had topped this outfit off with my J. Crew puffer vest. I thought it was totally working until one of my (male) coworkers informed me that I looked like Rambo. And let's face it, he was kind of right. Fashion lesson of the week: don't wear puffer vests with sleeveless shirts.

DSC_4244I've got yet another fantastic weekend lined up for tomorrow and the next day, including crossing one item of the 7x7 100 Things to Eat in SF Before You Die list, long walks with my husband in beautiful weather, a trip to Napa with some good friends, maybe some yoga...this workday can't go by quickly enough, can it? Happy Friday, and I hope you have a great weekend!
