I have to apologize for my extended absence. Life has been a little all over the place lately, which has made fitting in blog posts (and particularly blog photos) more challenging than usual.
So what's been going on?
First off, my husband got a new job! He's going to be working for a small startup here in San Francisco, and we're both really excited about it. However, his new schedule is going to make taking blog photos a bit more of a challenge - he had a little more flexibility in the mornings at his old job, so my outfit posts might continue to be a bit unpredictable as we settle into our new routine.
Talking about his new job reminds me - I never actually got around to telling y'all that I got promoted! At least, I don't think I did. It was almost three months ago now - my new title is "Partnerships Manager" and I'm loving the step-up in responsibility. Of course, new responsibilities also require extra effort, which explains why my blog posts have sometimes suffered when I have a lot of things at work to attend to. That probably won't end anytime soon - but it's not that bad of a tradeoff now, is it?
Here's what's happened in the last week and a half while I've been electronically silent:
My parents came to visit! And we had a spectacular time. Highlights included our day spent in Sonoma (with our stop at the Williams Selyum property and dinner at Barndiva being particularly fun). We also really enjoyed brunch at Foreign Cinema and, of course, dinner at Flour + Water. Overall, it was a fat and happy weekend, although it's always very hard to say goodbye when the weekend comes to a close.
Last week was a busy week of work, but thankfully it culminated in a really fun Fourth of July. Just like we did two years ago, we threw a party at our apartment and invited all of our friends (most of whom hail from Texas in some way, shape, or form). We cooked WAY too much pulled pork and ribs, drank a lot of delicious wine (including an amazing Williams Selyum Zinfandel my dad gifted to us while he was here), and watched the fireworks from our rooftop. We discovered that fireworks when viewed through fog look a bit more like an alien invasion than actual fireworks. We're okay with it, though - what's more quintessentially San Francisco than trying to see stuff through fog?
We spent the rest of the long weekend attempting to be as lazy as humanly possible. However, we were able to fit in one productive thing - we planned and booked a trip to Hawaii! I don't think it would be possible to be more excited (only 71 more days left). We haven't been on a real vacation since we went to the Virgin Islands in January, so we'll be more than ready for some down time when the trip rolls around. We even managed to be quite thrifty - we found a great place to stay on airbnb (just thinking about that site gives me a major travel bug) and we booked our flights with credit card points! Which will just give us more money to spend on delicious meals when we get there. We still need to plan out all of our activities, so please let me know if you have any recommendations for what to do on Oahu!
Other than that, it's been business as usual around here. On the pop culture front - we finished watching Orphan Black and over the weekend started watching Veep on a whim. On the literature front, I finished reading Darkness at Noon and started Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, which is a graphic novel about the author dealing with her father's death. I'm really liking the change of pace (I don't think I've ever read a graphic novel before) and the book is just objectively good. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to mix up their typical reading routine.
Hopefully the past week and a half has been as enjoyable for you has it has been for me. I'll try to keep my absences to a minimum in the future.
Have a great week!
