Dress Well: Roadside Attraction

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of taking a day trip to Napa with four of our friends. We spent the day going to wine tastings, picnicking, and just generally having a good time. If you haven't been wine tasting before - GO WINE TASTING. You won't believe how much fun it is.

I'm realizing looking at these pictures that the black leather + ripped jeans + aviators + gravel surroundings are making me look way edgier than I actually am. I kind of like this version of me. Shall we call her Ashley?

The other thing I can't help but notice when looking at these pictures is that my baby hairs decided to mutiny and make a little tornado crown. So that's cool.

(This photo will be a top contender for the image on the cover of my first solo album...obviously.)

Well, did everyone have a good week? I did, although the work hours were long and the sleep hours were short. Hopefully I'll reverse that trend over the upcoming long weekend! Due to the aforementioned short sleep hours, I'm a little too tired to regale you with my opinions on the Oscar nominations that were announced yesterday: another time, perhaps?

Finally, I just realized that I haven't yet said this: THANK YOU all for supporting my return to blogging with so much enthusiasm! Writing these posts has been the absolute highlight of the last two weeks. Your views, likes, comments, and general encouragement reminded me why I loved this hobby so much in the first place.

I'll be back next week with regularly scheduled programming.

Have an awesome long weekend.

Dress Well: Monogrammous

DSC_5691

All Saints jacket, Madewell shirt (old), Paige jeans, J. Crew shoes, Anthropologie necklace, J. Crew bracelet, Madewell monogrammed tote (no longer available in the Cabernet color--but a very similar color/design available from Cuyana), Ray-Ban sunglasses

This just so happens to my 400th post - something I didn't realize until 30 seconds ago. So, to celebrate (because I didn't prepare anything special), I bring you monograms! (Okay, just one monogram.)

To be honest, even though I've been married for three and a half years, my married monogram still doesn't entirely feel like my own. Maybe getting to look at it on this beautiful bag for years to come will assist me with making the full transition to my (no longer very) new name. And if you find yourself desiring your very own Cabernet tote (because Madewell no longer sells this color), may I suggest getting this one from Cuyana? (I love their stuff.)

Oh hey there.

I say this every Monday - but this past weekend was one of my favorite yet. We got to spend some time with one of our favorite organizations on the Berkeley campus on Saturday morning, then spent Saturday afternoon and evening cooking homemade jambalaya and going to see Selma. Yesterday we headed to Napa with some wonderful friends (pictures Friday!) and then capped off the weekend my very favorite way - by folding laundry and watching the Golden Globes. And yes, I am thrilled that Boyhood won both Best Director and Best Drama - although Selma was so wonderfully made, touching, and important that I was sad it couldn't win too. Above all, I think the most genuine moment of the entire telecast was Common's acceptance speech for the award for Best Original Song (look it up on YouTube--it's not up yet as of the writing of this post!). Speeches like that are why I love watching people win trophies.

Happy Monday, everyone.

Dress Well: San Francisco Spring

All Saints leather jacket, J. Crew sweater, J Brand jeans, J. Crew flats (old), J. Crew necklace (old), Clare Vivier clutch

I have a confession to make: living in San Francisco has made me kind of hate Spring. Don't get me wrong: I like the idea of Spring. And I like San Francisco. But unfortunately, while the rest of the country is enjoying warming temperatures and blooming flowers, our weather remains the same as it always does: just cold enough to be wearing a jacket. So while everyone is is pulling out their sundresses and embracing pastels, I'm mourning the fact that it's awfully hard to look seasonally-appropriate when sweaters and leather still need to be a part of my wardrobe. For the next couple months, just pretend it's Fall when reading this blog, okay?

Did everyone have a good weekend? We certainly did. We continued to keep things low-key while eating out as frequently as possible. On Friday night we went over to our friends' house for dinner, where they cooked us an AMAZING meal (that was up to our Whole30 standards!). Saturday we bummed around town before heading to TBD for dinner - a restaurant that should change its name to "The Most Paleo-Friendly Place Ever." Seriously. If you like to stick to meat and vegetables, TBD will be your no-sugar-added jam.

Yesterday we went to Ella's for brunch (it was great!) and then spent some time at the mall (the spoils of which you will see later this week, I'm sure). We closed the weekend out the same way we did last week - watching Mad Men and making a recipe from Nom Nom Paleo. I never claimed to have an exciting life.

Speaking of exciting, I will be hopping on a plane yet again this week! But this time only for a quick day trip down the coast. After that, I don't have another trip planned until June - here's hoping it stays that way. Regardless, I'll be posting here regularly - have a great week!

Dress Well: Meet Ms. Repeat

All Saints leather jacket, Zara blouse (old), Paige jeans, Madewell booties (old), TEXI leather bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses

What's one of the unexpected perks of having a weekend where you only hang out with your husband? Creating the opportunity to re-wear your weekend outfits at work the next week. I wore this ensemble out when my husband and I went to Bar Crudo for dinner on Saturday night - and gladly grabbed it out of my closet again yesterday morning when I couldn't decide what to wear. After all, no one saw me in it, so who would ever notice? Well, assuming that I didn't divulge my secret to the world here on the blog - too late now, I suppose.
