Dress Well: Lock Me Up

DSC_3223

Anthropologie dress, Chie Mihara wedges (on MAJOR sale!), Super old necklace, J. Crew bracelet (old), ASOS clutch, Ray-Ban sunglasses (very similar)

I wore this dress to work for the first time yesterday, and when I walked through the door I was met with a barrage of compliments from my very wonderful co-workers. Everyone loved this dress, as they should - not only is it fun and different, but it is RIDICULOUSLY comfortable. It was my outfit of choice for a recent dinner at Flour + Water because the lack of a waistband made it perfect for eating copious amounts of pasta. Seriously ladies, run don't walk to Anthropologie to pick it up - this baby's a keeper!

DSC_3084Can I get a show of hands for who's excited about the release of Season 2 of Orange is the New Black today? If you're not excited, go watch Season 1 and get back to me. My husband and I are planning on staying in tonight, cooking dinner, drinking wine, and taking in as many episodes as possible. After a long, productive, exhausting week, I'm more than ready to immerse myself for a few hours in a great show. Here's hoping it lives up to its own precedent.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dress Well: Sunday Brunch

Anthropologie dress (old), Ivanka Trump heels, J. Crew bracelet, J. Crew bangles, Coach sunglasses (similar)

I’m about to blow your mind – what I’m wearing in these pictures is a dress. I know, I know. Two or three years ago Anthropologie went through a period where they sold a bunch of dresses that looked like shirts tucked into skirts, and I bought as many as I could (remember this one?). These dresses make me look like I’m really good at pairing shirts and skirts, when actually all I have to do is throw on one item. The less thinking I have to do, the better. Which was why this dress was an obvious choice to bring on my trip to Houston this past weekend – I couldn’t pass up a chance to wear it given that it never gets warm enough in San Francisco to bring it out and it ended up being a no-brainer outfit for brunch at the country club. The stretchy waistband let me eat two full helpings of food from the brunch buffet as well as a slice of red velvet cake. When it comes to buffets, you have to dress with intention.

Also, this dress gives me an excellent opportunity to introduce you guys to my collection of bizarre tanlines. I know; you’re welcome. Two ill-fated sunscreen-less (except for my face!) rooftop reading outings have left me looking like I’m always wearing yoga crops and a tank top. And I’m about four shades darker on my front than my back, so that’s an attractive look too…let this be a warning – exposing your skin to the sun for the first time in a year while wearing workout clothes has very bad consequences!

These past few days have left me feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. After a sweet sendoff from my coworkers on Friday, I got to spend two whole days in the company of my wonderful friends and family, celebrating the wedding of one of my very best friends from college. The entire wedding was beautiful, the dancing was a blast, the cake was delicious, and I miss everyone I saw there already. Things have been a bit crazy since departing Texas - my husband and I landed in Oakland last night at 10:30, then had to deal with a flat tire on our car (!!!), and I woke up this morning at 6AM to go to my introductory CrossFit class. Whew. Luckily, I don’t start my new job until next week, so I’ll be bumming around town, taking naps and eating ice cream for the next five days! Life could be worse, right?

Whether you’re bumming around town like me, going to work like usual, or finishing up at school, I hope you have a wonderful week!

Dress Well: Full Circle // Last Day

Banana Republic shirt (similar), J. Crew skirt (old), Ivanka Trump heels, Michael Kors watch (similar), J. Crew bracelet, Tory Burch bag (very similar)

It wasn't until quite a bit after I had picked out this outfit to wear on my last day of work that I realized that it was the exact same outfit that I wore on my very first day of work. Maybe it's a little cheesy, but I like it when even the little things come full circle. That first day is still so clear in my memory - my husband and I had flown into San Francisco from our honeymoon the night before. Our stuff hadn't arrived from Texas yet, so we had to spend the night in a hotel. In the morning, my husband walked me to work (but not before we hit up the excellent hotel breakfast buffet). I remember walking into the office on the first day feeling so confident in this outfit - despite the fact that I was jet-lagged and crashing into reality after a wonderful honeymoon, I at least had my new clothes to keep me upbeat. Having graduated from college only a few months before, business casual was still a new, exciting, relatively unexplored dress code. My mom bought me this skirt as a part of my "professional world" work wardrobe, and I couldn't wait to wear it. These shoes were new too (now they're on their last legs) and by the time I was walking home to our apartment after work that evening, I was hobbling - turns out walking blocks and blocks and blocks in heels you've never worn before is a great way to tear up your feet. Lesson learned - in San Francisco, flats are essential for your commute!

DSC_7889I am so excited for the adventures ahead of me, but today, on my last day at Bank of America, it's hard not to reflect on all the wonderful blessings these past two years have brought into my life. While I've learned plenty of valuable things from the job, the aspect of working at BofA that I'll miss above all things is my co-workers. To Troy and Paul - thank you for making work such a fun (and funny) experience. Being able to share all of our work experiences, from the validating to the frustrating, and to become such close friends in the process is what has made me happy to walk into the office every morning (and you'd better be happy that you finally got a shoutout by name!). To Jeannette - one of my most loyal readers and such an incredibly loyal friend - thank you so much for being my teacher, then my workout buddy, then my friend. And to Chris and Vu - my very first and very best friends in San Francisco. The thought that I won't get to plan lunches every day with the two of you is enough in and of itself to make me cry. Thank you for letting me be the goofiest version of myself at work, and for being your goofiest selves right along with me. Goodbyes often feel so final, but the wonderful thing about this transition is the fact that I will still get to see all of you. And lastly, a million thanks go to my parents, my siblings, my husband, and all of you who took the time to send along your best wishes at this exciting time in my life. It means so much to me to be surrounded by such genuine, supportive people. Thank you, I'm sending so much love to you all, and have a fantastic weekend!

Dress Well: Mystery Date

Zara dress (last seen here), Birds on a Wire necklace, J. Crew bangles, Ivanka Trump heels, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Tory Burch sunglasses

This past Saturday, my husband took me on a mystery date. He wouldn't tell me where we were going or what we were doing, he just told me it was too dressy to wear jeans. And that we would be eating. But that's basically a given when you're the two of us.

This situation posed a variety of issues for me. First, we hardly ever go anywhere where jeans wouldn't be appropriate, so my clothing selection is a little sparse for dressy events! Secondly, I assumed we would probably be eating well (per the usual) and you know my number one fashion rule for going out to dinner: never, EVER wear something with a tight, constricting waistband. Given these issues, it only took me a few minutes to realize that this dress was the obvious choice. And with Mad Men premiering the next day, it just seemed appropriate to channel a little bit of Joan while out on the town. Finally, picking this dress gave me the perfect opportunity to debut my Birds on a Wire McKinney necklace - I love the way short necklaces look with high necklines, so the dress and the necklace were perfectly suited for one another!

It's going to be another busy week - I've got two charity events, plenty going on at work, AND I'm definitely going to get back in the workout groove. I think. Enjoy your Tuesday, and I'll see you back here tomorrow!
