Dress Well: Playing It Straight

Man, am I excited for the weekend.

I don't know what it was about this week - it's not like it was particularly bad or anything, but the whole thing just seemed to drag on for years. I hit the ground running Monday morning and just never got the chance to slow down. This weekend, though, things are going to change. We're going to dinner with friends tonight, trying a new restaurant and going to see a movie tomorrow (Nebraska! putting us at 8/9 on Best Picture nominees), and, of course, going to a friend's house to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday. What I'll lack in enthusiasm for either of the teams I will make up for in enthusiasm for eating queso. Which is the correct order of priorities, really.

Have an absolutely spectacular Friday.

Dress Well: Dress It Up, Dress It Down

Club Monaco blouse, Joe's jeans, Rag & Bone booties, J. Crew necklace (old), TEXI leather bag

I always feel like I need an occasion to wear this shirt. It's just so lovely and fancy that I often feel like it should only come out under special circumstances. However, that mindset has resulted in it sitting in my closet week after week, pressed and ready to go and yet untouched because a normal workday never seems like enough of an event, you know?

Yesterday I finally decided to bust this baby out. In my mind, Monday always calls for an outfit made of pieces that you love - you might as well make walking into work on Monday morning just a bit more enjoyable, right?

DSC_3311I hope you have a great Tuesday - I know mine will be good. I'm "on call" for jury duty this week (do other states have a system like that?) but have now gone two of the potential five days without being called in. It's kind of like San Francisco county's early birthday present to me. Let's hope I'm not speaking too soon.

Dress Well: Puffer Up

Another fall, another reason to wear my all-time favorite J. Crew puffer vest. It's not really as warm as it looks, but hey - who said jackets needed to be functional, right?

It's (almost) the weekend and I couldn't be happier. It has been a looooooong week, my friends. My husband's birthday is on Monday, so we'll be spending the weekend celebrating in our own small little ways, doing thrilling things like watching Scandal at home on our couch on Friday night. I know - we know how to party.

I hope you guys have fun things in store - happy Friday!

Dress Well: Rise to the Occasion

Club Monaco blouse (similar), Joe's jeans (similar), Shoedazzle shoes (old), Rebecca Minkoff bag, Coach sunglasses (old)

This was one of those weeks that really required me to rise to the occasion. Work turned into a relentless stream of stuff - all week I've been swimming along, just trying to keep my head above water. When I took these pictures on Thursday morning, I'd just come off of a work-til-2AM night...not generally the best situation to leave you looking (and feeling) your best. But phoning it in for a day wasn't an option, so I turned to my tried-and-true strategy: dressing well to make myself feel better. And guess what? Still works.

Today will be a sprint to the finish, work-wise, but you know what? I wouldn't change a thing. I couldn't be happier about where I am right now. Also, tomorrow morning we're flying to Dallas to attend a friend's wedding! I'm really looking forward to a weekend of celebrating love and happiness - I'm pretty sure it will be the perfect way to rejuvenate after a crazy week!

Have a wonderful weekend - see you back on Monday!
