Dress Well: Rise to the Occasion

Club Monaco blouse (similar), Joe's jeans (similar), Shoedazzle shoes (old), Rebecca Minkoff bag, Coach sunglasses (old)

This was one of those weeks that really required me to rise to the occasion. Work turned into a relentless stream of stuff - all week I've been swimming along, just trying to keep my head above water. When I took these pictures on Thursday morning, I'd just come off of a work-til-2AM night...not generally the best situation to leave you looking (and feeling) your best. But phoning it in for a day wasn't an option, so I turned to my tried-and-true strategy: dressing well to make myself feel better. And guess what? Still works.

Today will be a sprint to the finish, work-wise, but you know what? I wouldn't change a thing. I couldn't be happier about where I am right now. Also, tomorrow morning we're flying to Dallas to attend a friend's wedding! I'm really looking forward to a weekend of celebrating love and happiness - I'm pretty sure it will be the perfect way to rejuvenate after a crazy week!

Have a wonderful weekend - see you back on Monday!

Dress Well: Cream on White

Anthropologie shirt (old), Banana Republic tank (old), AG jeans, Sam Edelman sandals, J. Crew necklace (old), Tory Burch bag, Coach sunglasses

I've come to realize at least one thing in the process of writing posts this summer: my summer clothes are OLD.

These pictures were difficult to come by. Something about the light that morning looked harsh no matter what the setting. So I opted for the strategy that I find myself opting for so often in life: I found a spot in front of a gray wall that was simple and effective. No need to get fancy! Same goes for my outfit. I first paired this shirt and these jeans together on my honeymoon. Something about white on cream at the time seemed to say "Summer in Italy." However, the outfit has served me well here in the U.S. too. The best thing about white jeans? They allow you to feel summery and yet dress appropriately for 65-degree weather.

I am very much looking forward to the weekend - how about you? Between work, mornings at the gym, and evenings spent with my husband staying up later than we should to watch Arrested Development, I am thoroughly tired out. I can't wait for another weekend full of good meals, sleeping in, and lots of snuggling. We're headed back to AQ tonight to try out their summer tasting menu, and on Saturday I am getting a loooooooooong awaited haircut. Nothing drastic, but I can't wait to have my dead, split ends GONE! But enough about my thrilling weekend...what are you guys up to? I hope it's something fun!

Have a great Friday.

Dress Well: The Puffy Shirt

J. Crew blouse (old), J, Crew pencil skirt, Ivanka Trump heels (similar), J. Crew bracelet, J. Crew bracelet (similar), Rebecca Minkoff bag, Tory Burch sunglasses

Wednesday was predestined to be a good day. First off, it was warm in San Francisco (THIS NEVER HAPPENS). Secondly, I had a very fun little meeting to go to (check back on Monday for details about that!), and third, I had a cocktail reception to attend for my favorite charity. So I busted out the puffy shirt. My mom bought this shirt for me back in 2010 for our family's Christmas card photo shoot, and I've loved it ever since. While the sight of this shirt often terrifies my dry cleaner (so many ruffles!) and the ruffles look a bit different after every wash, I never tire of it. If you have to wear professional clothing, I feel like a puffy, ruffly shirt is really the way to go. Of course, I spilled red salsa down my right side at lunch on Wednesday, thus shattering the "I'm a professional!" illusion, but oh well. I don't think I own a single piece of clothing that doesn't have food stains on it.

Dress Well: A Night at the Theater

Club Monaco blouse (similar), Club Monaco skirt (old; love this one [paneling!] and this one [pleats!]), Danskin tights (similar), Sam Edelman booties (on sale!), Rebecca Minkoff bag

When my husband and I headed to the theater two weekends ago, I jumped at the chance to wear this Club Monaco skirt that my mom got me for Christmas. Since San Francisco is so casual, I rarely find myself at an event dressy enough for silky skirt. However, I absolutely love the pleating and the zipper detail on this little beauty, so I'm always on the lookout for a dressy occasion on which to bust it out!

DSC_3858I had to stay late at work last night (remember that to-do list I put off on Tuesday?) but there was no way a few more hours spent in a cubicle were going to get me down - today I'm headed to my hometown of Houston, Texas to reunite with SO many good friends from college at an annual event (more details on that tomorrow!) AND to celebrate my mom's birthday with all four of my siblings. With such an awesome long weekend in store, I was practically too excited to sleep last night! Stories and outfit photos from my fun-filled weekend will be coming next week, I promise :)

Have a great Thursday!
