Dress Well: Super Bowl Prep

Anthropologie shirt (similar), Current/Elliott jeans, Madewell necklace (no longer available)

We shot these photos inside yesterday because I felt that it would be 1) misleading to suggest that I left our apartment on Super Bowl Sunday and 2) misleading to suggest I wore shoes on Super Bowl Sunday. I spent the entire day yesterday barefoot, inside, and prepping for the little Super Bowl party we threw. However, I really, really enjoy hosting friends at our place, so I couldn't have come up with a more pleasant way to spend my day.

DSC_7096Despite the fact that we have no allegiance to either team who played in the Super Bowl, we had a great time having our friends over, eating delicious food (tacos! queso! vegetables! tiny cookies!), and attempting to enjoy the final moments of football season. Although I wasn't raised to be much of a pro football fan, I've always enjoyed the sheer gluttony associated with the Super Bowl. When I was growing up, my dad used to make us homemade pizza and calzones on Super Bowl Sunday - they were so delicious that I was too busy looking at my calzone to witness this (Houston's claim to Super Bowl fame!). We didn't manage to make calzones yesterday, but we did manage to whip up some homemade tacos, guacamole, and queso - basically, everything you would expect from ex-pat Texans.

Social Sunday nights always seem to make for melancholy Monday mornings - here's hoping we can break out of the funk! Have a great week.

Dress Well: Blue Fog

Anthropologie shirt, Current/Elliott velvet-print jeans (available used on eBay), Steve Madden booties (on sale!), J. Crew necklace (similar), Rebecca Minkoff bag

I present to you: the return of the rooftop picture! It's been far too long since we last utilized the spectacular view our rooftop affords - as a result, I'm vowing to never again go so long without clambering out to the unfinished top of our apartment building. Isn't that sweeping view oh-so-worth living on the edge?

This post combines two things I love: this view of San Francisco, and this entire outfit. These jeans I've had for two years now, and I will never tire of them. They've got velvet appliqués: need I say more? Also, this is the most comfortable shirt that ever existed. Over the holidays I took a trip to Anthro with my husband's family, and both of his sisters and I walked out with this shirt courtesy of our lovely mother! It's miraculous Anthro hasn't sold out of them quite yet - get it while you can!

And because I'm incapable of taking myself seriously, and want you to know that the majority of photos I take are hideous:

DSC_6065(You're welcome.)

Did you guys have the pleasure of enjoying a three-day weekend this weekend? I did, although my husband didn't. We made the most of the weekend by cooking delicious dinners, going to delicious brunches (photos from one of those brunches later this week), and spending time with some of our closest friends. The photos above were taken right before we headed over to our friend's house for dinner, followed by a night at the comedy club. We saw Michael Yo (who I think I had seen before on Chelsea Lately). The surprising upside to his show is that he's from Houston, and talks about Houston in his act - I'm always happy to find a little hometown love in unexpected places.

I then spent my Monday flying solo, cleaning our apartment (which I enjoy...don't judge), getting my nails done, and doing a bit more cooking. I also got to catch up on the first two episodes of Girls, which I loved because Lena Dunham is an unselfconscious genius who I am happy to have as the "voice of our generation" (cue eyeroll at that phrase). All in all, it was a very nondescript day, but I am 100% okay with that.

I'm not quite sure I'm ready to dive back into work today - but I suppose I don't have a choice. Have a great week, all!

Dress Well: Tweed Sleeves

J. Crew shirt, Current/Elliot jeans, Madewell booties, Madewell necklace. ?? Bracelet (gift from my sister-in-law!), All Saints leather jacket

Remember when I wished for this top back when I was making my birthday list? Well, over Christmas, Santa (ahem...my mom) checked it off my list! Tops that draw attention to the shoulders tend to look strange on me (because my shoulders are relatively wide), but something about the geometry of how the sleeves are cut on this top just works.

I feel like I should have something interesting to share from my life here...but I don't. My days have pretty much solely consisted of work, work, working and then coming home and immediately falling asleep. I'm still struggling to get off of Virgin Islands time and back onto San Francisco time. Which is a bummer, because my narcolepsy is making it very difficult for me to make any headway on the most recent episodes of Downton Abbey. First world problems? Definitely.
