Dress Well: Love for Denim

Madewell chambray shirt, Paige Denim jeans, Chie Mihara wedges, J. Crew bracelet (old), Anthropologie bag (old), Ray-Ban sunglasses

This isn't one of my most inventive outfits, but it's easily one of my favorites in recent memory - which would explain why I've worn it twice in three days. When you put together a great outfit over the weekend, why not trot it back out on Monday?

You'll also notice that, for once, I'm not wearing my hair down and straight. When your hair is as slippery and prone to wispiness as mine, it's hard to throw together any hairstyle that looks half-decent. However, when faced with circumstances that called upon me to rise above my normal course of action - in this case, going out for barbecue and needing my hair out of my face - I somehow managed to summon some creativity and braid my hair. I know - revolutionary. And it only fell apart twice. See the end of this post for a closer look!

DSC_3236Not sure why my hair looks red in this picture - although I kind of like it!

I wish I had something interesting about my life to add here, but almost all of my leisure time has gone towards watching Orange is the New Black - so if you want to hear about anything else, you're out of luck. Hopefully I'll be interesting again (was I interesting in the first place?) in about a week or so.

Happy Tuesday.

Dress Well: Rained Out

Madewell shirt (old), J Brand jeans, Converse sneakers, J. Crew necklace (old)

Yesterday my attempts to go out and get cute blog photos were thwarted by relentless rain. There are certain elements of nature that just don't mesh with blog photos: rain is one of those elements. While part of me thinks that soaking-wet photos would have at least been hilarious, for now we'll just have to settle for the single picture we were able to snap inside of the apartment. You guys get the gist of the outfit, right?

I had no idea when I bought this shirt that I would end up wearing it almost every week. Self-five, past Natalie. If only you had bought it in other colors, too.

I'm leaving for Houston today (yay!!) but I have, at the time of writing this, not packed a single thing. Somehow, House of Cards and napping on my couch seemed more important last night than loading up my suitcase. Here's hoping that in my rush to get packed I don't forget anything crucial...it wouldn't be the first time I forgot an essential item, like shoes.

Have a great Thursday. Posts may get sporadic as I travel to Texas, but I'll be back again next week!

Dress Well: Living on the Edge

J. Crew blouse (old), J. Crew shorts, Zara heels, Kendra Scott necklace, TEXI leather bag, Coach sunglasses (old)

This is what I wore to work on Tuesday. Well, correction - this is what I was planning to wear to work on Tuesday. I ended up working from home at the last minute. But before I made that decision, I put some major effort into picking out this outfit.

I still can only kind of believe that I was planning on wearing shorts to work. Shorts. To. Work. My Texan sensibilities incline me towards thinking that shorts in the workplace are borderline offensive, but I'm trying to get used to the San Francisco/startup mentality. In our office, shorts with a stylish outfit are completely acceptable. So I took the plunge. Well, if taking the plunge is the same as lining up to dive in the pool, only to have it lightning.

Even if this outfit never made it through the front door of my office, I still love it. I've written before about my devoted adoration of this shirt. Since the shirt is cut like a t-shirt, I love playing off the t-shirt idea and pairing it with jean shorts. And these Zara heels make everything better. Well, everything except for long walks.

Also, you may be asking if this is my natural hair texture. I am here to tell you that it most certainly is not. The stick straight, slippery hair that you see in all my other posts is my natural state, so if I ever shower at night I have to put my wet hair in French braids with plenty of mousse so that the texture the next day hides the inevitably greasy roots. The thing that cracks me up is that on the rare occasion when I wear my hair like this, people will say, "oh my gosh, I love that you're wearing your hair all natural!" Turns out it's really hard to explain to people why you would want to fake having naturally wavy hair when you actually have nice, straight hair. So I just go with it.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Dress Well: Neon Lace

Madewell top (in store only), J. Crew shorts

Signing off here at the end of this lovely Fourth of July week! I was happy to have this Madewell top with me to help me ring in Independence Day...as I keep saying, Madewell is unstoppable lately. I would write more about how much I love it, but I have my last full day at the beach to get to...happy Friday, everyone!
