Dress Well: Madewell

Madewell shirt, AG jeans, J. Crew necklace, Tory Burch bag (very similar), Coach sunglasses

Despite my best efforts, I am yet to become much of a Madewell fan/customer. They have a great store here in San Francisco, but every time I go I encounter one of two problems 1) I don't see anything that really reflects my style (at a reasonable price point) or 2) Everything I try on is way too wide and way too short. I don't know why this seems to affect only me - both of my sisters and both of my sisters-in-law have a ton of Madewell clothes and look adorable in all of them (in fact, I think I may have copied my sister-in-law by purchasing this shirt...if I did, sorry L!). Anyway, I always leave Madewell discouraged, and then shuttle over to J. Crew where I love everything in the store (as every single post on this blog reflects all too well).

This top is one of the two exceptions I've found to my Madewell troubles (with the other one being this sweater). It's a little "out there" for me (stripes and polka dots!) but I know it's good to try new things, and the shirt is so comfortable that I know I'll end up wearing it a ton. It was the perfect shirt for the warm weather we had in San Francisco last weekend, and I look forward to wearing it on many more sunny Sundays.

Dress Well: Double (Valentine's) Copycat

Anthropologie dress (wish I had enough $$ for this one), Urban Outfitters cardigan (similar), Old necklace (similar), Vintage clutch (similar), J. Crew bracelet, Coach sunglasses, Outfit 1 shoes: Rocket Dog boots, Outfit 2 shoes: Steve Madden flats

I have had not one, but TWO inspirations for the pairing of this eyelet dress and this red sweater. The first was two years ago, when Quinn wore this outfit on Glee:

Sorry for the low-quality picture, image source here

Yes, she is wearing the exact same dress that I'm wearing in the pictures above. And she's also wearing heavy brown boots, which I unfortunately could not find a picture of. When I first saw her in this dress on Glee, I hated how they styled it - brown boots with spaghetti-strap eyelet? Too unexpected. At the time, the only thing I thought this dress went well with was sandals. But as time has gone by, I've come around to the Glee version, and now my Rocket Dog boots are one of my favorite things to throw on with this dress.

Here are a few more photos of my interpretation of Quinn's outfit:

I told you you'd see this bracelet soon enough!

My second inspiration came from Sequins & Stripes. When Liz posted about Valentine's outfit consisting of an eyelet dress paired with a red sweater, leopard flats, and the J. Crew heart bracelet, I realized I had every single outfit component and decided to put it together myself.

Dress Well: Winter White

Anthropologie sweater (on sale!), AG jeans, J. Crew flats, Ernest Alexander via Club Monaco tote, J, Crew bracelet, Coach sunglasses

Seeing as the temperature here in San Francisco stays within a 15-degree range year round, I think I should be able to wear all of my clothes year round as well. When I saw this outfit over at Brooklyn Blonde, I realized that making my jeans winter-appropriate wasn't all that hard after all.

DSC_0024Yesterday was a confusing day - after catching my morning bus at a fortuitous time (and therefore not being as late to work as I could have been), I was greeted at the office with news of corporate reorganizations and layoffs (no worries, my job is safe). After a positive performance review and leaving work before it got dark for the first time in for-ev-er, I ended up three seats away from a homeless guy on the bus ride home who alternated between cursing randomly and insulting the other bus passengers (longest 20 minutes of my life). Luckily, my day ended with my husband and I chowing down on burgers and a milkshake at Roam Burger, the most delicious burger place in all of San Francisco (or at least the Marina). All I know is that today is Friday, and despite being home sick for two days out of the past week, I am so ready for a three-day weekend! Have a wonderful Friday.

Dress Well: Cozy and Cold in Austin

J. Crew vest (similar), J. Crew shirt (old, love this one), Citizens of Humanity jeans, J. Crew necklace, J. Crew bracelet (sold out, love this one), J. Crew flats, Rebecca Minkoff bag

This post could also be entitled "The One in Which I Wear A Bunch Of Christmas Presents." Not quite as catchy. I got these shoes, this purse, this necklace, and the bracelet in the pictures all for Christmas. I'm spoiled rotten. Anyway, I layered it all on yesterday in order to brave a chilly day in Austin, Texas.

DSC_9299I hope everyone has some fun weekend plans lined up - I'm planning on enjoying my last weekend here in Texas by eating at some delicious restaurants and spending time with wonderful friends and family.

Until next week!
