Live Well: Making Me Happy

DSC_8935[My favorite dahlia arrangement ever + colorful books]

This week felt forever long. Maybe it's the result of coming after a four-day week, maybe it's due to too much work and too little sleep. Either way, I'm so excited it's Friday. In honor of the tradition on Pop Culture Happy Hour (which you know I'll be listening to on my way into work today), I decided to share the things that have been making me happy this week. Happy weekend, everybody - rest up, have fun, and I will see you back on Monday!

[The incredible view from my rooftop deck. I can't wait to be back up there this weekend, soaking in the sun (hopefully) and reading my book!]

[The most delicious brunch ever at Universal Cafe. I had to get in a final breakfast there before finally cutting back on calories!]

[The fact that it was warm enough to wear shorts and short sleeves last weekend. Okay, I ended up being pretty cold. But it was close to warm enough! I'm hoping we're graced with the same beautiful weather this weekend.]

Live Well: Labor of Love

Labor DayOf all the words I could associate with this weekend, "labor" is probably the least likely to make the list. You know when you build something up so much that there's no way that reality could meet your expectations? Well that totally did NOT happen on this highly-anticipated Labor Day weekend.

This entire weekend has been one long good-time blur, starting with dinner at Frances on Friday (service was questionable, food was amazing), then moving onto watching Rice do a GREAT job in their season opener against Texas A&M (and proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are the classier team), then a walk around my beautiful neighborhood, then dinner with friends, then trips to the farmer's market, then enjoying homemade chicken skewers and zucchini pancakes paired with rosé with my wonderful husband...and best of all, we have ANOTHER day! All of this is to say that my weekend has been wonderful so far, and I hope you've got plans today that are even better than mine (which primarily consist of baking cookies, walks around the neighborhood, and chores at my apartment).

Happy Labor Day everyone!

Dress Well: Prairie by the Bridge

Anthropologie dress (old), Rebecca Minkoff sandals, J. Crew bracelet, Rebecca Minkoff bag

When I was a child, I loved Little House on the Prairie (the books, obviously - you know I strive for maximum nerd-dom). While in general the whole prairie look doesn't really do it for me, something about this dress's whole "the-prairie-look-meets-the-1962-shirtdress" thing that really stood out to me. There's something about all the little details encompassed in the design that make the dress as a whole very pleasing.

There's a lot to think about when you're standing on a roof, trying (and failing) to look photogenic:

Luckily, life calmed down for me today, so now I can turn my attention to the next big thing: one of my best friends comes to visit me tomorrow! I know, it snuck up on me too. I'm really looking forward to leaving work early on Friday and spending an entire weekend eating, drinking, and generally bumming around. Also, Breaking Bad! Sunday night! Final season! I'm not lying when I say that my friend and I planned her trip around that premiere...

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Dress Well: Day One

Anthropologie blouse, Joe's jeans, J. Crew flats, Anthropologie cuff (old), Tory Burch bag (similar), Coach sunglasses (similar)

I've spent every minute of the last 24 hours feeling overwhelming lucky. I can't believe how wonderful my life is, and I hope that's a realization that never fades. After one day at my new job, I have no doubts that the switch was a great decision.

I wore this on my first day of work yesterday, and I feel like it was an outfit that let me focus on what was important - getting settled in my new job, meeting new people, and starting to learn a bunch of new things - rather than focusing on the fit or comfort of what I was wearing. In my opinion, how you feel in your clothing should never impede the power of your personality or your brain - it should only enhance it.
