Live Well: Sonoma Getaway

There's nothing I enjoy doing more when we have guests in town than going up to wine country. With so many wineries (and so many wines!) you can do something new and different every single time you go. When we went with my husband's sister this past Sunday, we visited Gloria Ferrer, Loxton, Gundlach Bundschu, and Ram's Gate. We enjoyed all of the wines, and the broad swath of experiences was fun to take in on one day - from sunny, hilltop Gloria to touristy but gorgeous Gundlach to the always-classy Ram's Gate to Loxton, which is literally located in the winery garage. We took it slow, enjoyed each sip, soaked in some sun, and loved every minute. Now, who wants to come visit so I can plan another trip?

There's just something about Wednesday night, guys - somehow I always seem to end up working until I go to bed. Oh well - in my old job, I was NEVER the last person in the office. I would leave at the first chance I got pretty much every night because I hated the work. These days, I'm happy to stay late - I hardly ever notice when the clock hits 6:00, then 7:00, then sometimes 8:00 while I'm working away. And although that probably means a lot of hours sitting at my desk, at least they're enjoyable hours, right?

All right, enough of that - there are few things as terribly, terribly boring as someone talking about how many hours they work. I hope everyone's short week is going really well so far - I'll be back tomorrow with a Friday outfit post!

Live Well: Red, White, and Blue (Part 2)

DSC_8737Last Saturday, my husband, some of our friends and I enjoyed a wonderful day at Ram's Gate Winery in Sonoma. The wine was fantastic (both red and white..are the titles of this post and Monday's starting to make sense now?), the food delicious, and the service impeccable. On top of all of that, it was an absolutely perfect day - it was amazing how quickly the hours passed by as we ate, drank, talked, and laughed sitting in the winery's beautiful indoor-outdoor space. I kind of wish I was going back tomorrow (and every Saturday from here on out...) - I can't recommend it highly enough if you're looking for a relaxed, quiet day in Sonoma.

DSC_8733Well, my first week at Shopkick is coming to a close - can you believe it? It flew by so quickly (I think that's the first time I've ever said that about a work week). After five days I think I can definitively say that I love my job...how great is that? I am looking forward to the weekend, though - a weekend filled with long naps and good food with good friends will be the perfect way to top off a great first week.

Have a great Friday (and a great weekend) and I'll see you back here on Monday!

Red, White, and Blue

I found myself in a bit of a clothing conundrum on Saturday morning - we were headed up to Napa for the day, so I needed a warm-weather outfit that looked presentable, was comfortable, and managed to hide my wide variety of funky tan lines. Prior to moving to SF, I donated almost all of my warm-weather clothing because it rarely gets above 65 degrees here, so the pickins are slim when all of a sudden I have to dress for 80+ degree weather. And after last week's posts, you guys are aware of my tan lines situation. Anyway, after several outfit attempts, I finally re-discovered this skirt in the back of my closet. Luckily, it allowed me to craft an outfit that was up to all of my various specifications.

In truth, I'd pretty much forgotten about this skirt until I saw it on Lena Dunham in one of this past season's Girls episodes. Let's face it - the fact that it appeared on Lena in the show isn't exactly a testament to the skirt's trendiness. But I love it nonetheless, and I am very happy to say that I think it was the perfect choice for a day at a winery.

DSC_8631We spent all day Saturday at Ram's Gate and had a fantastic time - check back later this week for part 2 of this post, which will have pictures from our visit!

Now I'm off to my first day at my new job - wish me luck! And have a great Monday.

Eat Well: Napa Pizza Party

J. Crew shirt, Paige jeans, J, Crew flats, J. Crew necklace, J. Crew bracelet

One of the fantastic things about living in the San Francisco Bay Area is being able to take a quick day trip up to Napa any time you want. This past Sunday we took full advantage of that perk, and hopped in the car in the afternoon for an evening filled with friends, wine, and food. We started with a wine tasting at Girard (delicious wines - I highly recommend it if you find yourself in Yountville!) and then headed over to Oenotri for a 10-person pizza party that one of my friends purchased on Gilt City. The food was fantastic - amazing pizzas, great pasta, and dessert that was to die for...and I was literally dying because I'm not eating desserts this month! Whether you live nearby or you come visit from afar, put Oenotri on your "must try" list - you won't regret it!
