Dress Well: High School Flashback

I have two confessions to make:

First - these pictures were taken a long time ago (back in October, I think). I don't live in some sort of warm January wonderland where sleeveless shirts are totally comfortable in the middle of the winter (sadly).

Second - I'm wearing American Eagle jeans. ...I know. For all of you who are 26 like me and just shuddered at the thought of what you used to wear in high school...I am right there with you. I bought these jeans because American Eagle is one of shopkick's clients, and I was testing out a discount that we have in our app. I then waited a month longer to wear them because high school Natalie was shouting "don't do it!" across the space-time continuum. But then I put them on and realized they're the greatest, cheapest thing to ever happen to my wardrobe. I've been wanting "destroyed" jeans forever, and I managed to get them for $35!

DSC_5391Did anyone else wake up this morning singing the "Friday" song to themselves? I'm pretty thankful to have made it successfully through the first week back after the holiday (although it wasn't painless). Going to Crossfit on Tuesday and Wednesday morning resulted in me being so incredibly, thoroughly sore that I currently am incapable of walking like a normal human. But hey - I'm shuffling around now so I can avoid shuffling around when I'm an old lady. Worth it, right?

As usual, I am very excited for the upcoming weekend. We're likely going to see one of the many spectacular-looking movies that are currently out (I'm really excited about Selma) and are also taking a day trip up to wine country with some of our friends. And I'm sure there will be some enjoyment of sunshine and 60-degree weather in there, too. I hope you've got plenty of things to look forward to this weekend as well!

Have a wonderful Friday.

Dress Well: Saturdays on the Town

Anthropologie blouse, Paige Denim jeans, Chie Mihara wedges (on sale!), J. Crew necklace (old), Rebecca Minkoff bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses

It's official: I think you guys have seen every piece of clothing that I own. These days, I look in my closet and find a complete lack of inspiration. And for that reason, you'll have to forgive me when my outfits seem very repetitive. I just can't afford new clothes every week, you know?

There's one other thing I have to admit to: I currently have a terrible yoga crops tan. Like I wore yoga crops to read on my rooftop deck, and ended up with a tan where it looks like I'm constantly wearing socks. I won't be baring my legs again until it evens back up...and that could take a few months. Awkward tan lines are kind of my forte.

DSC_4945Despite my lack of new clothes and my terrible yoga crops tan, we still had a fantastic weekend. We had friends in town from Texas and had the greatest time hanging out, getting dinner, and catching up with the people we love. Also, after MONTHS of anticipation, we finally got to go see Boyhood, which I will be writing more about tomorrow (spoiler alert: we LOVED it). All in all, we were reminded yet again that we lead a wonderful life. I hope you felt similarly this past weekend.

See you back here tomorrow. Have a great day.

Dress Well: Bejeweled

Topshop top via Nordstrom (old), J. Crew white jeans, Sam Edelman sandals, J. Crew necklace (old), J. Crew bangle, Anthropologie bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses

Is it just me, or did the peplum trend totally disappear? I haven't seen a new peplum item in a store or online in quite some time. How quickly these things come and go.

Maybe peplum is gone from stores, but it's certainly still got a place in my closet. I bought this top last year and I will be wearing it for a few more years to come at least. I love the color, it makes me feel like my arms are awesome, and it plays nicely with big necklaces - win, win, win.

I also just can't get enough of this old Anthropologie bag these days. If you had told me on the day that I got it that I would someday be wearing it while living in San Francisco and taking photos for my fashion blog, I would have told you you were out of your mind. I guess clothing trends aren't the only things that make dramatic changes in the course of a few years.

DSC_3475At this point in the week, I'm about ready to go into hibernation. Wake me up when it's Friday, won't you?

Dress Well: Blank Slate

Peter Som for Kohl's dress, Chie Miahara shoes, Birds om a Wire necklace c/o, J. Crew bracelet, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses

It's funny - even though this is a striped dress, it's become the blank slate upon which I layer some of my favorite items in my wardrobe. It looks great with all my necklaces, and it also looks great with sandals, booties, heels - you name it.

Speaking of shoes - how AMAZING are these Chie Mihara wedges? I LOVE them. I'd been in the market for some wedges for quite some time when I came across these online. They had everything I wanted - a low heel, nude coloring, the promise of being comfortable - but I found the price a bit too steep to pull the trigger on (I mean - $355? Too much).

I'd been looking at them on the Shopbop website, but on a whim decided to plug the shoes' name into Google. And you know what I found? These shoes for $100 cheaper at Lord & Taylor PLUS an additional 20% off in a promotion they were running. Let's just say that the speed at which I whipped out my credit card could have qualified me for a World Record. They were still a big purchase, but you'll be seeing these puppies on my feet for YEARS - I guarantee it.

T minus two days until my brother and sister get to town and my Whole 30 is over! I love it when you know your week's going to be good. Enjoy your Tuesday, and I'll see you back here tomorrow.
