Dress Well: Holiday Peplum

Zara dress, J. Crew belt, Sam Edelman booties, Old necklace (similar), Tory Burch sunglasses

I know we're well past the holidays at this point, but I'm going to have to ask you to bear with me for one more set of pictures with a Christmas bonanza in the background (also known as my parents' house). I brought this outfit to Houston with one specific event in mind: my family's yearly pre-Christmas dinner at Pappa's Steakhouse. Since the outing is always a feeding frenzy, I needed an outfit that was both holiday appropriate and stretchy. This outfit turned out to be perfect (minus the belt - never wear a belt to a steakhouse).

Also, if I am ever out taking pictures for the blog and you walk by the photo session, this is what my face will look like. "Noooooooooo someone's coming down the street - I feel awkwarddddddd" - direct quote from me right before this picture was taken.  DSC_8910Happy Thursday, everyone!

Dress Well: Perfect Peplum

Topshop top (via Nordstrom), AG Jeans, Steve Madden flats, Tory Burch bag, Michael Kors watch, Old necklace

Peplum was made for girls like me.

I do not have a great waist to hip ratio. If I want to fool people into thinking I have a small waist and anything other than nonexistent hips, my clothes have to do the work. Of everything I've tried, peplum does this the absolute best. I love how the peplum shape creates an optical illusion that doesn't require belting your waist so tight you can't eat (much less breathe!) while you wear that outfit. This stretchy (and cheap!) Topshop peplum top paired with boyfriend jeans ended up making the perfect Thanksgiving outfit, giving me plenty of flexibility to eat, drink, and laugh to my heart and my stomach's content.

Yes, you're right - you have seen this picture before.

DSC_6759Word to the wise: if you want to order this top, go two sizes up from what you usually wear. Topshop's sizes are done on the British system, so while I usually wear a 2 in tops in America, the 6 in this top fit me perfectly.

Today my wonderful, insanely intelligent, beautiful, funny sister lands in San Francisco for a whirlwind weekend visit! I can't wait to see her. She may be nineteen months younger, but I have always been in awe of her quick wit, eye for style, and crazy cooking talent. I promise I will have pictures next week documenting her time here! Until then, have a great weekend.
