Dress Well: I'm baaaaaaaack!!

Heyyyyyyy friends - it's been awhile, hasn't it?

If you think me posting this on January 5th smacks of a New Year's Resolution...then you are partially right. But mostly I've returned to blogging for the time being because I just got back from spending two weeks in Texas, where so many of you were so kind to go out of your way to tell me how much you love and miss this blog. Your words meant the world to me, so I figured it was time to get back at it!

I have a slew of excuses for why I took such a long break - with most of them boiling down to "scheduling," "lack of inspiration," and VERY un-camera ready skin. But those are in the past now!

As you can see from the pictures in this post, I also have a lot of new clothes (thanks to the overwhelming and constant generosity of both my mom and my mother-in-law). There must have been some sort of decree that made this puffer vest the new uniform for the girls in my neighborhood because it seems like EVERYONE I see on the street is wearing it...myself included, clearly. But it's warm and comfy, so I will continue to celebrate my conformity.

My mother-in-law also got me these real-life Aviators for Christmas...what do you think? Am I pulling them off?

DSC_5497I'm sure the thing you missed most about these posts was hearing about the daily minutia of my life (right?), so here we go: we got back from Texas on New Year's Day. I didn't have to go to work on Friday, so I've basically been living the good life. The weekend included interviewing a Rice applicant (yay!), eating at our new local fancy pizza place (also yay!), going to see The Imitation Game (more to come when I do my annual Oscars post, I'm sure), dinners with friends, deep-cleaning our apartment, and capping it all off with the return of Downton Abbey. Does it get better than that? I'm not sure it does.

Back at least twice this week with a post on New Year's Resolutions and a second outfit post.

Have a great Monday!

Dress Well: Day Owl

J. Crew vest, J. Crew blouse, Citizens of Humanity jeans, Rag & Bone booties, Michael Kors watch, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses

You know, I thought I had worn this shirt on the blog before...but I can't seem to find the post. So maybe I'm imagining things! Regardless of whether or not I've said it before, I LOVE this button-down. The mascot at my alma mater, Rice University, was an owl, so I feel especially spirited any time I don this shirt. What's not to love about being able to show school spirit in a subtle way?

Is there anything better than four-day weeks? I really don't think so. This one flew by, and I'm looking forward to another fun weekend spent with my husband. Hopefully all of you have something fun lined up. I'll see you back here next week!

Dress Well: Puffer Up

J. Crew vest, Club Monaco blouse (similar), Paige jeans (old), Steve Madden flats (old), TEXI leather bag, Coach sunglasses (old)

Another fall, another reason to wear my all-time favorite J. Crew puffer vest. It's not really as warm as it looks, but hey - who said jackets needed to be functional, right?

It's (almost) the weekend and I couldn't be happier. It has been a looooooong week, my friends. My husband's birthday is on Monday, so we'll be spending the weekend celebrating in our own small little ways, doing thrilling things like watching Scandal at home on our couch on Friday night. I know - we know how to party.

I hope you guys have fun things in store - happy Friday!

Dress Well: Weekend Blues

J. Crew vest (old), Madewell shirt, Paige jeans (similar), Rocket Dog boots, J. Crew necklace (similar), J. Crew bangle, Anthropologie bag (similar), Coach sunglasses

This outfit is pretty much my weekend uniform - my favorite jeans, a loose-fitting shirt, a puffer vest to keep me warm, and shoes that I can slip on and off easily when I'm driving around, running errands (am I the only one who can't stand driving with shoes on? Possibly...). Just looking at this outfit is making me wish it was the weekend again...DSC_3999

Did you guys have a good weekend? Mine was good, albeit short. We had the macaroni & cheese at Citizen's Band on Friday night (only 98 more items to go on the 100 Things to Eat in SF Before You Die list!), got in a workout and a beautiful walk across the city on Saturday morning, had dinner with friends on Saturday night, and headed up to Napa yesterday for a fancy pizza party (more on that tomorrow!). Although I was sad to see the weekend end, I'm also excited for the next few days to pass - on Thursday evening I will be heading to Texas for a Rice reunion event and my mom's birthday. I know next weekend will be filled with good food, good friends, and bare legs (God bless Houston in March), so naturally I'm counting down the days! Have a great Monday!
