Heyyyyyyy friends - it's been awhile, hasn't it?

If you think me posting this on January 5th smacks of a New Year's Resolution...then you are partially right. But mostly I've returned to blogging for the time being because I just got back from spending two weeks in Texas, where so many of you were so kind to go out of your way to tell me how much you love and miss this blog. Your words meant the world to me, so I figured it was time to get back at it!

I have a slew of excuses for why I took such a long break - with most of them boiling down to "scheduling," "lack of inspiration," and VERY un-camera ready skin. But those are in the past now!

As you can see from the pictures in this post, I also have a lot of new clothes (thanks to the overwhelming and constant generosity of both my mom and my mother-in-law). There must have been some sort of decree that made this puffer vest the new uniform for the girls in my neighborhood because it seems like EVERYONE I see on the street is wearing it...myself included, clearly. But it's warm and comfy, so I will continue to celebrate my conformity.

My mother-in-law also got me these real-life Aviators for Christmas...what do you think? Am I pulling them off?

DSC_5497I'm sure the thing you missed most about these posts was hearing about the daily minutia of my life (right?), so here we go: we got back from Texas on New Year's Day. I didn't have to go to work on Friday, so I've basically been living the good life. The weekend included interviewing a Rice applicant (yay!), eating at our new local fancy pizza place (also yay!), going to see The Imitation Game (more to come when I do my annual Oscars post, I'm sure), dinners with friends, deep-cleaning our apartment, and capping it all off with the return of Downton Abbey. Does it get better than that? I'm not sure it does.

Back at least twice this week with a post on New Year's Resolutions and a second outfit post.

Have a great Monday!

Dress Well: After the Game

Vince tee, J. Crew shorts, Rocket Dog booties, Anthropologie necklace, Michael Kors watch (old), J. Crew bangle, TEXI leather bag, Coach sunglasses

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I spent part of the day on Saturday watching Rice play A&M. For me, it's hard to watch any Texas college football game and not feel like I'm back in my home state. Because I was actually in sunny, beautiful San Francisco, I figured I could at least dress like I was in my home state.

So, I pulled out my booties and jean shorts (it was warm enough to wear shorts!!!). I wore this out to lunch with a friend. After the sun set, I swapped the shorts out for white jeans and the booties out for flats.

Between the warm weather, game-induced high spirits, and seeing a friend from back home, I felt as close to Texas as I could get despite the 2,000 mile distance.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend - have a great short week!

Dress Well: Instant Replay

Zara jacket (similar), Vince tee, Madewell jeans, J. Crew necklace (similar), Rag & Bone booties, Rebecca Minkoff bag

See? I wasn't lying last week when I said this was my new favorite shirt. I couldn't resist pulling it back out again this past Saturday for dinner out followed by a little party with friends. Something tells me I'll pull it back out this week, too...

Also, I'm glad we snapped these pictures when we did. With the heavy fog (and humidity) in San Francisco, my hair was stick-straight by the time we got to dinner 10 minutes later. Bummer!

Dress Well: Perfect Shirt

Vince tee, AG jeans, Birds on a Wire necklace c/o, Rebecca Minkoff bag

When my husband and I were in Dallas last weekend, we stopped in the Vince store in Highland Village. I'd seen their stuff on bloggers before, but had never shopped it myself. It only took a brief touch of their t-shirt fabric to get me hooked - their shirts are so soft. It's ridiculous. As a result, I ended up making this heather gray version mine - long-sleeve tees are year-round wear here, so I'm sure I'll be putting tons of miles on this baby. Plus, it's always nice to go to work feeling like you're still wearing pajamas.
