Dress Well: So Much Menswear

Men's sweater (similar), Paige jeans, Vince Camuto loafers, Rebecca Minkoff bag, J. Crew necklace, Michael Kors watch (similar), J. Crew bracelet, J. Crew bangles, Tory Burch sunglasses (similar)

I've always heard that if you're going to wear a menswear-inspired item, you should temper it with a bunch of feminine items in order to not look like a man. This is me doing the exact opposite of that (and hopefully not looking like a man). Last weekend, I layered on my oversize watch, my Vince Camuto loafers, and one of my husband's old cashmere sweaters for an afternoon of errands (and ice cream). Funny story about this sweater - shortly after receiving it for Christmas, my husband accidentally washed and dried it, despite the fact that it's cashmere. As expected, it shrunk down so that it was just too small to be wearable (for him). However, I said it could live a happy life with me and it's been one of my softest and warmest clothing items ever since - a diamond in the rough, for sure!

So, remember last week when I said I would wear my cobalt J. Crew dress to a campaign event? Well, it appears that Malia Obama reads my blog (obviously) and agrees with me. Check out the dress she sported (and danced in!) at the inauguration:

Blogging has already paid off (and thanks for not letting me miss this, Mom!). Have a great Friday.

Dress Well: Golden Sweater, Golden Hour

J. Crew Sweater (old), J. Crew shirt (sold out right now), Citizens of Humanity jeans, Vince Camuto smoking slippers, Tory Burch bag (similar), Tory Burch sunglasses (similar), Michael Kors watch (similar)

Good Lord - do not try to find shopping links for your blog on the day after Christmas! According to the J. Crew website a few minutes ago, they currently have ZERO plaid shirts of any kind in stock. This country has gone crazy for plaid, apparently!

Anyway, I seem to always have the best luck with lighting when I take pictures in this shirt. And yes, plaid on plaid is most certainly happening here - if you can't wear that combination at Christmas, when can you?

Dress Well: Christmas Eve

12-11-12-CollageNecklace - J. Crew, Blouse - Club Monaco, Bracelet - J. Crew, Belt - J. Crew, Clutch - Zara, Skirt - Alice + Olivia, Heels - Vince Camuto

Knowing that I will spend allllllll of Christmas Day in my pajamas with unbrushed hair and no makeup on, I like to try to look halfway put together on Christmas Eve. The items above are what I wish I was going to be wearing this Christmas Eve - the outfit incorporates a level of sparkle that you can only get away with during the holidays. Also, I see Christmas Eve as the one day out of the year to wholeheartedly dress in Christmas colors - we might as well take advantage, seeing how everyone avoids looking "Christmasy" the rest of the year. With this outfit, all I need are stockings over the fireplace, hot cocoa in my hand, and "Silent Night" playing in the background to make for a perfect Christmas Eve.
