Dress Well: Sunday Dinners

Y'all - it was WARM this weekend. It was warm and sunny enough this past weekend to cause me to get sunburned in all kinds of weird patterns - on my wrists (???), on my shoulders, on the tip of my nose, on my knees. Being exposed to that kind of sun is so rare for us San Francisco dwellers that I almost feel like I spent the past two days on a beach vacation - I mean, there was no swimming, and no bathing suits, but....it was close enough.

DSC_5146There were multiple moments this past weekend where I stopped, looked around, and dedicated a few seconds to thinking, "does it GET any better than this?" The first time was when I was reading up on my roof on Saturday afternoon - the sun was shining, the temperature was perfect, and I had a beautiful panorama view of San Francisco. Seriously - what's better than that? The second time I had that same thought, I was running the Lyon Street steps, getting to the top, basking in the breezy 75 degree weather, and looking out over the San Francisco Bay.

When I wasn't admiring my surroundings, I was enjoying time, meals, and laughs with my husband or friends. It was truly a weekend for the record books - low-stress, high happiness, and gorgeous in every minute. How did I get so lucky?

Hopefully you had a similarly wonderful weekend. 'Til the next one...

Dress Well: Three Year Flashback

Anthropologie shirt (old), J. Crew jeans, Chie Mihara wedges (on sale!), J. Crew necklace (old), Anthropologie bag (old), Ray-Ban sunglasses (red version)

Here's a fun piece of trivia - it's my wedding anniversary tomorrow! In honor of that, I thought it would be appropriate to wear an outfit that made its first ever appearance on my honeymoon three years ago.

I went on a major shopping spree at Anthropologie shortly before we got married and headed to Italy, and this shirt was one of my purchases, along with my old pair of white jeans. I still remember how much fun it was to plan out each of my honeymoon outfits, and how much I enjoyed pairing white and white together in this outfit (I think every bride-to-be develops a strange obsession with wearing white). As a result, this outfit will be forever associated with Florence in my mind. Which is really the best association to have, isn't it?

It didn't even occur to me until I was typing out this post that this outfit is doubly appropriate for a wedding flashback post because it's all white. Obvious answer is obvious. To everyone except me, apparently.

Dress Well: The Double

You guys: the shirt in the photo above and the shirt in the sidebar of this website are NOT the same shirt. I know. Mind blown.

Let's compare side by side. Here's the shirt from the sidebar: DSC_1138

And here's the other one:

They're basically fraternal twins.

As I've talked about in the past, the shirt in the sidebar is one of my favorite pieces of clothing of all time. Because it's one of my favorite pieces of clothing, I have worn it so many times that it is practically disintegrating. It's ripped across the back, the dye in the stripes is running, and the whole thing is just very...fragile. So when I was in Old Navy last week and saw what appeared to be the EXACT SAME SHIRT, I had to buy it. There was no question.

The Old Navy version isn't as spectacularly perfect as the original - it's polyester, not silk, a little bit looser-fitting, has a frocket, and is generally not as high-quality. But it was $23 - easily a third of the price of the original from J. Crew. And its life will probably be longer - so what could I possibly complain about?

Best of all, it means the short-sleeved striped (fake) silk shirt won't be exiting my closet any time soon. And that makes me a happy girl.

DSC_3727The other thing that makes me a happy girl is the fact that we're headed to Cincinnati today! We're going to the wedding of two of our close friends and couldn't be more excited to reunite with college buddies and celebrate such a happy occasion.

Have a great weekend - I'll see you back here next week.

Dress Well: Lock Me Up

DSC_3223

Anthropologie dress, Chie Mihara wedges (on MAJOR sale!), Super old necklace, J. Crew bracelet (old), ASOS clutch, Ray-Ban sunglasses (very similar)

I wore this dress to work for the first time yesterday, and when I walked through the door I was met with a barrage of compliments from my very wonderful co-workers. Everyone loved this dress, as they should - not only is it fun and different, but it is RIDICULOUSLY comfortable. It was my outfit of choice for a recent dinner at Flour + Water because the lack of a waistband made it perfect for eating copious amounts of pasta. Seriously ladies, run don't walk to Anthropologie to pick it up - this baby's a keeper!

DSC_3084Can I get a show of hands for who's excited about the release of Season 2 of Orange is the New Black today? If you're not excited, go watch Season 1 and get back to me. My husband and I are planning on staying in tonight, cooking dinner, drinking wine, and taking in as many episodes as possible. After a long, productive, exhausting week, I'm more than ready to immerse myself for a few hours in a great show. Here's hoping it lives up to its own precedent.

Have a wonderful weekend!
