Dress Well: Rained Out

Madewell shirt (old), J Brand jeans, Converse sneakers, J. Crew necklace (old)

Yesterday my attempts to go out and get cute blog photos were thwarted by relentless rain. There are certain elements of nature that just don't mesh with blog photos: rain is one of those elements. While part of me thinks that soaking-wet photos would have at least been hilarious, for now we'll just have to settle for the single picture we were able to snap inside of the apartment. You guys get the gist of the outfit, right?

I had no idea when I bought this shirt that I would end up wearing it almost every week. Self-five, past Natalie. If only you had bought it in other colors, too.

I'm leaving for Houston today (yay!!) but I have, at the time of writing this, not packed a single thing. Somehow, House of Cards and napping on my couch seemed more important last night than loading up my suitcase. Here's hoping that in my rush to get packed I don't forget anything crucial...it wouldn't be the first time I forgot an essential item, like shoes.

Have a great Thursday. Posts may get sporadic as I travel to Texas, but I'll be back again next week!

Dress Well: Lace it Up

Anthropologie dress, Rocket Dog booties, Madewell necklace, Anthropologie bag (old)

A fun brunch at Cotogna over the weekend gave me a good excuse to bust out this white and lace Anthropologie dress. (The slightly warmer weather was an important part, too.) This sweet octopus graffiti by the restaurant gave me a good excuse to bust out the camera. The combination of the two gave me a good excuse to put the whole thing on the blog!

DSC_7155Did everyone have a good President's Day weekend? (Apologies to those of you who didn't get the day off - I had to work on MLK, so I totally feel your pain.) We had a great long weekend, full of fun times with friends, great meals, lots of time spent in the sun, and even finishing a few projects around the house. I felt like I was snapping pictures of the fun things we did all weekend - I'm sure you'll be seeing those trickle out on Instagram throughout this week!

Have a wonderful TUESDAY (nothing better than a four-day work week, right?)!

Dress Well: Rain Delay

J. Crew shirt, Paige jeans (old), Converse sneakers, J. Crew necklace, TEXI leather bag

Yesterday morning was a total meltdown - not only was it raining (lightly) when we went outside to take photos, but we discovered once we went to take the first picture that our camera was dead. So, we had to resort to iPhone photos. I guess things could have been worse.

In my opinion, when you're dressed in something as comfortable as a baseball tee + Converse, there's virtually no chance of having a bad day. I just can't get over my love for this shirt - it's striped, has leather detailing, and goes great with big necklaces. It's pretty much the Platonic form of everything I like in clothing.

While yesterday was undoubtedly a good day, I have to admit that I cried during my entire drive home from work. It had nothing to do with what happened to me yesterday, and everything to do with what I was listening to - David Sedaris on This American Life reading his essay about his sister's suicide. The essay is centered around the experience of growing up in a big family, an experience I relate to in almost every detail. More than anything, this passage made me sob and laugh and marvel how remarkably true it is all at the same time:

"This is how I thought of it, for though I’ve often lost faith in myself, I’ve never lost it in my family, in my certainty that we are fundamentally better than everyone else. It’s an archaic belief, one that I haven’t seriously reconsidered since my late teens, but still I hold it. Ours is the only club I’d ever wanted to be a member of, so I couldn’t imagine quitting."

I miss you, family.

There's a cheery thought to send you off into your weekend...regardless, have a great one!
