Dress Well: Touches of Gold

Anthropologie cardigan (old), J. Crew tank, Paige jeans, Old necklace (love this whistle one), J. Crew bracelet, Sam Edelman sandals, Tory Burch bag, Coach sunglasses (similar)

Do you have a piece of clothing that you absolutely love, and will absolutely love forever? For me, that piece of clothing is this sweater. It's essentially everything I love all in one place - navy blue, stripes, lace, touches of gold...remember what I said about Anthropologie getting this shirt exactly right? Clearly their mastery of striped items didn't end there. That shirt and this sweater will live happily ever after together in my closet, and I couldn't be happier about it!

Also, you might notice that my hair isn't straight in these pictures (for once). To get it to look wavy, I took a shower the night before, put some mousse in my hair, braided it into four braids, and slept on it. It worked really well - I think I'll be subbing that technique into my regular routine!

DSC_1865Man, there's nothing like a four-day work week to really take it out of you, right? One of my friends laughed at me when I said I would likely be in bed by 10:00 tonight, but let me tell you - that was no joke. Can you believe how exciting my life is? Because I hardly can...

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dress Well: Memorial Day Weekend

Anthropologie blouse (old), AG jeans, Sam Edelman sandals, J. Crew bracelet, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Anthropologie sunglasses

There are still some things about living in San Francisco that I'm trying to get used to. One of those things is enjoying a cold Memorial Day weekend. When my husband, his sister and I went out for dinner last Saturday night, I wanted to wear something as holiday-weekend appropriate as I could. However, dressing for Memorial Day is a bit of a challenge when it's 50 degree outside! Long sleeves and jeans were essential, while choosing to have cold feet was a bit more of a stylistic choice. Either way, the outfit let me focus on what was important - enjoying a delicious dinner at A16. I wish I was going back tonight for more pizza!

The one thing that a cold, gray Memorial Day allowed me to do was nap, watch TV, and eat without feeling guilty for bumming around my apartment all day. It wasn't a productive, healthy, or particularly interesting day, but it was exactly what I wanted. Hopefully each of you did something a bit more exciting!

Well, I think it's about time to go start my Mon...Tuesday! Gotta love these weeks where you're confused about what day it is the entire time. I've got some fun stuff lined up for this short week, so I will see you back here tomorrow!

Dress Well: Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good

Club Monaco blouse, Madewell jeans, Ivanka Trump heels, Tory Burch bag (similar), Coach sunglasses (similar)

Look good, feel good, play good: I've heard this phrase associated with golf many times, but I think it applies just as fully to everyday life. After having kind of a rough day at work on Tuesday, I decided Wednesday morning that I would throw all of my energy into making the rest of the week wonderful, starting with my clothes. I pulled out my very favorite pink pants (are you guys tired of them yet?), paired them out with my simple but beautiful Club Monaco blouse, and wore heels to work for the first time since I stopped working at the bank. And you know what? It worked. Wednesday ended up being a wonderful day, and Thursday was even better. Given that trajectory, I have high hopes for today!

Side note: one of the things that made Wednesday so wonderful was so many of my sweet coworkers complimenting me on my outfit. You guys are the best!

So, does everyone have a fun Memorial Day weekend lined up? My husband's sister is in town, so we'll be living it up with her, eating delicious meals, drinking wine, taking in the San Francisco sights, and just generally having a great time hanging out and catching up. I hope all of you have something equally as special planned!

Dress Well: Come Sail Away

Anthropologie blouse, Citizens of Humanity jeans, Steve Edelman sandals, J. Crew necklace, J. Crew bangles, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Coach sunglasses (similar)

Two things about this outfit (having two things to say is starting to be a trend. I'm not sure why):

1) Remember when I introduced my love for this shirt in this wish list post? Well, later that week I went to Anthropologie on an all-out hunt for these adorable sailboats. While I usually would have ordered it online, Anthropologie makes you pay for shipping, which is always 10% more than the item itself cost. Ridiculous. Anyway, they didn't have this shirt in the store, and none of the salesladies had ever seen a shirt of its description, but one of the associates stood patiently with me for almost half an hour while we looked it up on the Anthropologie system. We eventually found it, they shipped it for free, and it showed up at my door last week!

2) This outfit represents a big departure for me in that I'm wearing sandals with jeans. I never wear open-toed shoes with jeans (except when I wore them together on Saturday). Something about the proportion of my feet to my legs has always made me feel weird about going open-toed: my feet are really small and narrow, while my legs are thicker and more muscular, so I always used to think that wearing sandals with jeans made my feet look comically small. I know, I know, but we all have our things.

After my downer day two days ago, yesterday was so much better! Yesterday also made me realize that there's something really special about starting off your day being happy - on my drive to work I listened to the This American Life episode called "Coincidences," which kept me smiling and laughing with each successive story. It's hard to come off of 45 happy minutes in the morning and not be happy for the rest of the day, you know? If you ever get a minute, you should listen to that episode - I promise it's impossible not to laugh the entire way through!

Have a great Thursday!
